Advising Services

Our dedicated team offers advising services to claimants and respondents participating in an OCR grievance process, at no cost to the party. Advisors support the university’s commitment to providing caring, fair, and equitable processes in response to reports of discrimination, harassment, relationship violence, sexual misconduct, stalking, or retaliation.

Advisors can assist individuals as they navigate the processes and proceedings outlined in the Anti-Discrimination Policy as well as the Relationship Violence and Sexual Misconduct & Title IX Policy (RVSM and Title IX Policy). This assistance may include:

  • Explaining applicable policies and procedures
  • Accompanying the party to investigatory or other process-related meetings
  • Helping to prepare and review process-related documents
  • Attending and participating in pre-hearing conferences and hearings, including conducting cross-examination on behalf of the party during those hearings

Advisors are exempt from policy-based reporting obligations during the provision of OCR advising services.
