Reports of Prohibited Conduct Involving OCR Staff Members

To ensure objective investigations and decision-making, reports of Prohibited Conduct under the Relationship Violence and Sexual Misconduct and Title IX Policy or Anti-Discrimination Policy involving any staff member of OCR as a claimant or respondent should be made to the MSU Misconduct Hotline. Reports to the Misconduct Hotline can be made online or via phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as described here: https://misconduct.msu.edu/submit-report/index.html. The number of details you provide will have a direct effect on the ability to investigate your concern. Anonymous reports may also impact the University's ability to investigate and/or take disciplinary action.

The Misconduct Hotline is monitored by the Chief Audit, Risk and Compliance Officer within the Office of Audit, Risk and Compliance (OARC), who receives guidance from the Office of the General Counsel (OGC). When a report involving a staff member of OCR of Prohibited Conduct is received, OARC will assign a University employee or external partner to coordinate appropriate supportive measures and determine whether the claimant would like to pursue a formal grievance process or any other available resolution process, and take any other steps necessary under the circumstances. If the matter requires an investigator, OARC will work with OGC to assign an impartial and trained investigator (external to OCR). The University will strive to complete the investigation using the Policy and Procedures used by internal OCR staff. However, in the limited circumstance that a deviation of process is necessary, the parties will be notified in writing of the process to be used.

For any report involving a staff member of OCR of Prohibited Conduct, OARC and OGC (in consultation with the Vice President of OCR where appropriate) will determine whether and what case information should be added to the OCR case management system for data integrity and recordkeeping purposes. In all circumstances, access to reports involving OCR staff members as claimants or respondents will be limited to only the OCR staff necessary for system compliance and recordkeeping.
